Brush Classes
Calming the spirit, returning to the source
Suzan has begun teaching both Classical Japanese Brush and Zen Brush, two approaches to Asian art she has studied formally for many years. She combines her studies in each class: the Classical Japanese Brush teaches brush strokes and control while Zen Brush teaches relaxation, creating energy in a brush stroke, and how to have fun painting.
All painters use a brush and, in particular, the Classical Japanese Brush is a study in brush strokes. You do not need to know anything about Asian art to benefit from her classes; you will gain proficiency with the brush in any form of art by studying with her. You might also learn something about the intriguing Asian characters along the way. She prides herself in teaching students how to relax, a must if an artist’s strokes are to have energy and life.
Her class offerings are for two classes per month:

Aikido Classes
Daniel Tran is a Sandan in Aikido and is a very qualified instructor personally trained by Susan. He teaches Aikido on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm at the Alexander Hughes Center.
Aikido is a Japanese Budo. Students learn how to balance, center, and to keep themselves safe from attacks. In class we may practice with bokken (wooden swords) and jo (wooden spear). In each class students stretch out and begin to learn how to move to keep safe on the mat. Breathwork and simple meditation skills are introduced and used in Aikido.
Those interested in classes at the Claremont Dojo can contact Daniel Tran.
