SUSAN'S VISION
Susan Perry, Susan's Vision
Susan Perry has been a relentless activist primarily through her 20 year publication - Aikido Today Magazine. It was published to open the closed off world of Aikido, to overcome the discriminatory powers that controlled Aikido as a kind of feudal system when it first arrived in this country. With her magazine, Susan offered a publication open to all teachers and students which published a calendar of events for all dojo and a forum for all Aikido people to come together, asking questions, and offering answers about this art. It is only through such openness that Aikido can realize its purpose of bringing people together in unification and harmony. Through this magazine, Susan fought for worthy Aikido teachers who had been marginalized by the status quo by calling attention to their teaching through her published interviews with them. The current open status of Aikido is largely a credit to her early work and the substantial run of her magazine over 20 years.
Susan was asked by the publisher of her new book - The Hidden Power of Aikido - to participate in radio interviews to promote it, and she did. Those interviews are offered here. Also offered are some published news articles on her work as well as past issues of her own newsletter, The Community Well.
Susan’s work continues on various fronts; it is the purpose of this section to collect these resources for those who are interested. Her substack writings, which continue daily, are accessible through susanperry.substack.com and subscriptions are free. Also free are subscriptions to her newsletter which you will find as a footer on this site. But not everything is free. See the aiki.com shop for her books and for archival copies of ATM.
